The Cahaba River is important to preserve for the wildlife associated with it and more critically as a source of valuable drinking water. Alabama and the Southeast need clean water supplies and the Cahaba River is a major source. It must be protected.

Something's pretty fishy in Alabama

Sunday, October 28, 2007

The Cahaba River makes an appearance in the National Geographic Society's World Atlas as one of six places worldwide rich in biodiversity. Actually, it's talking about Southeastern streams and rivers in general, but it does focus on the Cahaba. The river "has more fish species per mile than any other river in North America. Population growth and increasing streamside development, dams, and water diversion for irrigation are long-term threats," the Atlas noted.
